In the August 20 broadcast of In Search of a Song, executive producer Rich Reardin interviews singer-songwriter-producer David Gans at his home in Oakland, California. David started his music career in 1970 in the Bay Area of San Francisco and has played with members of The Grateful Dead, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Donna the Buffalo, Peter Rowan, Ollabelle, The Waybacks, Blueground Undergrass, Dark Star Orchestra, Keller Williams, moe., Hot Buttered Rum, the Rowan Brothers, and Henry Kaiser. He was also a music journalist for BAM (Bay Area Magazine) Rolling Stone, etc., interviewing artists throughout the 70′s like Leo Fender, Randy Newman, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Goodman, T Bone Burnett, and Warren Zevon to name a few. Today he hosts the nationally syndicated radio show, “The Grateful Dead Hour”; “Tales from the Golden Road” on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio with co-host Gary Lambert, editor of “The Grateful Dead Almanac”; and the local weekly show, “Dead To The World,” on Berkeley’s KPFA.
Topics include: the beginnings of his band with Chris and Lorin Rowan… the “Beatles Jam Band” – Rubber Souldiers; his feelings about writing music for performance sake; writing music with others; and performing with the Rowans.
